City of Denton

Social Media Management

In my current role with the City of Denton, I manage our digital marketing and social media presence across multiple channels. Part of my role as the manager of all City social channels is to curate content with a citizen focus, ensuring posts are timely, relevant, and/or informational. This has been especially challenging during the COVID-19 pandemic.

In addition to designing social graphics, writing posts, and managing an editorial calendar, I advise departmental communicators on content for their social channels as well. I’ve also worked to create and implement a social media policy to help guide content and set rules and guidelines in place for the management of social media channels across the organization. Check out the City of Denton Facebook and Denton Public Library Facebook to view examples of my work.

Media Relations

As the backup Public Information Officer for the City of Denton, I regularly assist with answering questions from news and media agencies. I work with department leaders to craft statements in response to media inquiries as well as set up interviews between staff members and the press. In interviews, I act as a resource for staff members, helping facilitate conversation, providing clarification if needed, and making sure staff is supported.

Additionally, I write a majority of the press releases the City puts out. I work with the Director of Public Affairs, the Chief of Staff, and executives to ensure press releases are accurate and consistent with the City’s brand and core values. Graphic Design

Graphic design is a large part of my role with the City of Denton. On a daily basis, I design social media graphics, flyers, banners, and posters for a wide variety of departments. One of my main duties as a resident graphic designer includes managing the creation of our monthly Citizen Connection Newsletter that is distributed in utility bills to more than 55,000 households and businesses. For this publication, I work with organizational leaders from six to eight other departments to curate content, design infographics, and layout each monthly issue. See examples of my work below.

Marketing Strategies

Another major duty I have as a marketing and outreach coordinator with the City of Denton is to create communication plans for departments including the Library and Solid Waste and Recycling Department. These typically include campaign strategies and short-term communication pushes that announce a new product or service. In crafting these plans, I outline key messages, layout the work that needs to be accomplished, schedule a timeline, and assign duties. I’ve created and fully executed communication plans for the rollout of the Library’s Fine Free campaign, the announcement of a new ebook/audiobook service, the Solid Waste departments yard service change, and more.
